Australia finish off South Africa 🦘

Australia claimed a first home series win against South Africa since the 2005-06 summer with a crushing triumph in the Boxing Day Test. The result meant South Africa's streak of three successive series victories in Australia cannot become four and they go to Sydney with their World Test Championship (WTC) final hopes hanging by a thread. They must win the final match of the series to stay in contention for the final.

WTC perspective for Australia: Qualification for WTC Final is almost guaranteed. Need 1 win or 2 draws in order to mathematically secure it. In fact, there are only 2 scenarios in which Australia DON'T qualify for the WTC Final:

  1. Lose 3rd Test vs South Africa, lose 0-4 or 0-3 in India and South Africa win 2-0 vs West Indies or Sri Lanka win 2-0 in New Zealand.

  2. Draw 3rd Test vs South Africa, lose 0-4 in India and Sri Lanka win 2-0 in New Zealand.

New Zealand sitting comfortably against Pakistan 🪛

Kane Williamson's fifth double-hundred in Tests helped New Zealand pile up a mammoth 612 for 9 before Tim Southee declared the innings with his side 174 ahead. Pakistan batters have a long way to go with 77/2 and still trailing by 97 runs. Can Babar Azam's men take them through ?

First Non-Asian Player to score a Test Hundred in 10 different countries 🐐. The only other cricketers that have done that are - Younis Khan in 11 different countries along with Rahul Dravid, Mahela Jayawardene, and Kumar Sangakkara in 10 different countries. If we were to talk about tying Younis Khan it’s not possible for Pakistanis and Indians as they can’t tour each other. So a batsman from another nation would have to have a ton in every country. The hardest country to check off would be Ireland because of how rare it is for them to host.

ECB withdraw Harry Brook from SA 20

Harry Brook has been withdrawn from the upcoming South Africa T20 league, SA20, by the England board. The decision was conveyed to his franchise Joburg Super Kings and organizers Cricket South Africa (CSA) by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday (December 28). The ECB withdrawal is seemingly due to managing the young batter's workload.

🗯️ Read of the Day

A coach is like a Headmaster, not a friend - that's the BCB way. Maybe that is the way for some of the players that need to have their egos in check. But clearly the Coach as a friend does not work for some teams | Read
